Handicap Walkers with Wheels & Handicap Walkers with a Seat Versus Wheelchairs

Article by: The Relief Shop Medical Supplies Team

Handicap walkers with wheels and walkers with seats provide exercise versus a wheelchair

Walkers With Wheels and Rollators Are Better Than Wheelchairs, When Possible

When people lose mobility or they find it hard to keep their balance, it seems they have two choices: wheelchairs or walkers. Both of these will help individuals get around but when possible, rollators and handicap walkers with wheels are usually the better choice. This is because they will still help the person get around, but not by keeping them immobile and doing further damage to different parts of the body.

Doctors and medical professionals agree that while wheelchairs are sometimes necessary, they do have some downfalls. One of the major ones is that the entire time a person is in a wheelchair, there are many parts of their body that are not being used – mainly from the waist down. While this is necessary for individuals such as paralysis patients, or those who are too weak to walk at all, wheelchairs are not always necessary for everybody. In fact, if a person has limited mobility, but can still walk, they can actually do damage to the leg, hip, and feet muscles, as well as the spine, because they’re immobilizing so much of their body. Immobilization of any part of the body then means that blood is not flowing to it properly, and it’s not getting the exercise needed to keep it toned and healthy. Instead of wheelchairs, rollators and walkers with wheels are usually most recommended for patients with limited mobility.

Handicap walkers with wheels are great for people who still have some mobility, but just need some help getting around. They keep the feet moving, because the walkers rely on forward movement of the person using them in order to work. Because of this, walkers with wheels still let the legs, feet, and hips get the exercise they need. Yet, walkers with wheels still make it easier for a person to walk because they are equipped with wheels, making movement easier and smoother.

Handicap walkers with seats are also some models of walkers with wheels that are very popular. These are called rollators and they not only have wheels and a seat, but hand brakes. Rollators not only still allow a person to get the exercise they need, but also to take a break when they need it. These walkers really give the best of both worlds, because the individual can still work their muscles and get their blood flowing properly, but they can also sit when they need a rest.

If you or someone you love is struggling with the choice between a wheelchair or a walker with wheels, come see the huge selection of walkers we have, and find out how you can get the best of both worlds – mobility that’s easier, convenient, and still keeps you active!
